Our first major social event in Sapporo. Following a couple of lectures on
the destabilising effects of geothermal gases on existing volcanic rock
forms, the party really got going! Here are some of the main protagonists:
Yun (mouth organ), François (accordion - see below) and Akira (violin).

François, one of the world's foremost volcanologists, was more interested in
getting into the party mood than in finishing his lecture. He did, however,
give us an outstanding performance on his accordion!
Note in the
background the rather more studious Japanese continuing their
volcanology discussions!

The party in full swing. María having a go at both the accordion and
the violin, and Tsuyoshi bashing out a number from his book of basic
tunes for the shimasen (a 3-stringed guitar) - quite brave of him, as he
only started learning a month ago (Aiko smiles on encouragingly!).

Tsuyoshi modelling the pig face. In case you are wondering, yes we did eat
it (well, not María, of course!).
