We have been asked by many people, since we arrived in Sapporo, what
our accommodation is like. To quote but some:
- "Is your flat a shoe box?"
- "Can you sleep lying down or do you have to sleep standing up?"
Well, have a look for yourselves. Below are a series of photos, starting with
a (Flash-driven) panoramic. All told, our flat is between 30 and 35 metres
squared, but space is well-utilised and it is fully-equipped.
A single photo of the main living area that should make you feel less dizzy.
The bed doubles as the sofa (as opposed to a sofa-bed!).
Separate loo and bathroom. Spot the ingenious invention! The loo cistern
is filled by an open tap - you can wash your hands after you have flushed
the loo!
Jeff enjoying a beer in the "bath". It reminds him of those metal tubs you
see in Western films.
Again, note the ingenious invention: there is just one set of taps - the spout
rotates to fill both sink and bath!
No, we're not asking for help with translation! These are the extemely
complex instructions for household waste disposal. In summary, for
standard rubbish
there are 4 different collection days per week for 3
different classifications of waste. The Japanese all do their bit for the
environment... well, we don't know what happens after the rubbish is
removed!
